Pai again

the mountains looked much clearer than the on the way up
the hill tribe girls keep at a safe distance from the tourists
the velvet costumes look beautiful and comfortable
vista from the misty hill from a few days ago. It is cool and windy
relaxing on the verandah by the river
at the evening market
we got some bags from this very quiet girl
she sells poodle costumes
a boutique with colourful handycrafts
last year this view was of a brown cracked landscape,
hazy smokey and hot
stop ath the pankled coffee shop on the way to Chiang Mai
looking at the gorgeous glossy Thai art magazines
and the friendly staff
we made it back exactly on time,
to return the car on the dot of 10 AM

on the way to Pai

by chance we stopped in a little village on the way
as we could see behind the trees the elegant spires
beautiful gardens
nobody around
calm
inside  quite a few women dressed in white in meditation
on the verandah
in the corner of the temple complex this beautiful wooden temple
elegant wood work
and carvings
what a serene place!

on the way back to Pai

Wandering around Mae Hong So in the morning we came
across several groups of monks on their alms round.
They stop in front of the houses where the people have
set up little tables with food.  To give thanks  the young monks chant
the monk quarters look very comfortable and are quite old
a very big statue of Buddha in a side temple
The main temple was big and had a polished floor
The shrines were loaded with offerings and statues
Sweeping of the floors seemed like a dance
a beautiful image of the Buddha
the mountains are covered in mist

morning in Pai

Morning is broken
coffee from Cameron, Coffee Prince, Knockrow Byron Pai
offerings are being placed on the little house altars
dragon flies in action
getting out of the little cottage

the t shirts of Pai at the night market

Pai has a thriving little market in the evening
lots of stalls have T shirts with Pai motives
We all want Aung San Suu Kyi
pai makes you happy as Pye
certainly has colour
and lots of bends, lots of travellers throw up on the way
I like this one. It sums up Pai very well
If you save Pai, you save the world
the hill tribes have lots of stalls
I love the black velvet pants they are wearing and
different coloured velvet tops
more Rasta man here than anywhere in Thailand

Pai or Byron Pai

Last time we were in Pai, the hills were dead brown
yellow and smoldering from the burn offs. One could hardly
see a few hundred meters
we stayed by the river in a really nice place
a place across the river

the sky was changing all the time
the clouds moving
lots of little huts up in the trees
